The West Virginia quilt block is traditionally an eight-patch design. However, to simplify the process, we'll construct it as an uneven nine-patch. This method offers a more straightforward approach, in my experience.
While this block involves numerous pieces, each one is relatively simple. The main challenge lies in accurately sewing together the many seam allowances. You'll encounter plenty of half-square triangles and a few square-in-a-square patches to add visual interest.
